Greetings!
This Spring, members of Santa Barbara Bodhi Path were able to participate in the rolling of mantras to be included in the 8 stupa project at Natural Bridge center in Virginia honoring Shamar Rinpoche. Our deepest thanks to Lama Jampa from Menlo Park Bodhi Path and our fellow Sangha members from SLO Bodhi Path and more who have been instrumental in helping SB BP have what we needed to get rolling! The process of rolling the mantras starts with sheets of paper that have been printed with specific mantras. These sheets are then carefully rolled around a stick of incense and then further wrapped in yellow cloth and multi colored yarn representing the 5 Wisdoms. It is a wonderful process that requires a bit of patience. These rolls will be a part of the stupa project and included in the “first treasure chest” of one of the 8 stupas in Virginia. The rolls from SBBP were the “Sojong Mantra” and are 8.5” tall containing 75 sheets. The rolling took place over the course of a few days and many Sangha members were able to join various stages of the rolling practice and participate. It is wonderful to think that these rolls will be included in a project that will be of benefit to so many beings for years to come.
About the Center
The Santa Barbara Bodhi Path Buddhist Center offers a high quality curriculum of instruction in Buddhist meditation practice and philosophy. The Center was founded in 1997 at the direction of Shamar Rinpoche. Since then, hundreds of students have come to learn and practice in a modern, non-sectarian environment focused on authentic Buddhist teachings taught and practiced by authentic teachers. We are a diverse community of practitioners encompassing all ages and levels of practice. Dawa Tarchin Phillips is the resident teacher, and we regularly host visiting teachers.
