Topic:
Shangpa Rinpoche will teach on the Mahayana practice of developing bodhicitta and living one's life as a Bodhisattva. Composed by Ngolchu Thogme Rinpoche (1295-1369 CE), The Thirty Seven Practices of a Bodhisattva is a classic guidebook on how to transcend the limits imposed by self-centeredness to open our hearts to our own potential for love and compassion.
About the Teacher:
Born in 1960 at the border between Tibet and Nepal, Shangpa Rinpoche was recognized at the age of two as an incarnation of the Great Yogi Shangpa Rinpoche. In 1976, at age 19, Rinpoche was appointed by the 16th Karmapa as Abbot of the Janchub Choeling Monastery in Pokhara, Nepal. Since 1982, Rinpoche has overseen the Karma Kagyu Buddhist Center of Singapore at the request of H. H. the 14th Shamar Rinpoche. Shangpa Rinpoche is also Abbot of Vikramashila Buddhist Institute in Nepal, Tharpa Choeling Nunnery in Mustang, and Drubgyud Choeling Monastery in Lumbini. In 2004, Rinpoche founded the Kagyu Institute for Buddhist Studies in Kirtipur. To manage his works in these areas, Rinpoche established the Shangpa Foundation in 1996 and became Chairman with the approval and support of the Nepalese Government.
An important teacher in the Kagyu lineage, Rinpoche travels frequently to the other countries to keep in touch with the progress of his works and to continue with the propagation of the Buddhism.
