Karma Dechen Yangtse Retreat Center (Bordo, Italy)

In the Italian Alps, in the remote Antrona Valley, lies the picturesque mountain village of Bordo. It is only accessible by foot via a century-old path.

The village had been abandond for about two decades. A group of young german and swiss people living in comunity started to repair the houses in 1981. From the very start of Bordo’s revival Buddhism has played a central role. In 1982 Shamar Rinpoche gave the village the name "Karma Dechen Yang Tse" (Place of the Highest Happiness). Soon after, a meditation room was built and later on a Stupa was constructed. Many Lamas have visited the place and given teachings. Shamar Rinpoche is the spiritual guide of Bordo as Bodhi Path Retreat centre. During his visit in 2006, he emphasized the qualities of Bordo for a profound and authentic practice of Mahamudra.

Towards the end of the 1990ies, the Dharma House was built especially for practitioners who wish to go on a retreat. The Dharma house offers 6 rooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 kitchen and a small temple.

Each year several Buddhist events take place in the village: teachings, study, meditation courses, and retreats. During courses, up to 40 people can be hosted in the many houses of the village.
