Official statement from Bodhi Path on the passing of Shamar Rinpoche
It is with deep regret that the Bodhi Path Buddhist Centers worldwide share the news of the sudden passing of our beloved master and founder, Shamar Rinpoche, on June 11th around 7:30 am (UTC+1:00). After he passed away, Shamar Rinpoche immediately entered the state of samadhi-at-the-moment-of-death (Tib: Thukdam) and remained in that state for the following two days with all the signs of a Buddha.
Rinpoches and Lamas of the lineage have been conducting the appropriate Buddhist prayers since Rinpoche’s passing. In addition, H.H. Karmapa Thaye Dorje will arrive at Bodhi Path Rechen-Ulm, Germany, in order to pay homage to Rinpoche. In a short time, Rinpoche’s body will be taken to Asia for the traditional 49-day prayers and practices before the cremation.
With the blessing and support from H.H. Karmapa Thaye Dorje and Jigme Rinpoche we will continue to preserve Rinpoche’s vision for the Bodhi Path Buddhist Centers worldwide during this period of transition.
As H.H. Karmapa mentioned in his statement on Rinpoche's passing, “We must dedicate our merits and practice to him, and do the practice of Amitabha, since he himself is the emanation of the Buddha Amitabha. So we must ask for his return, in order to benefit and guide us all towards enlightenment.”
Jigme Rinpoche, Shamar Rinpoche’s brother and guide for Karma Kagyu centers in Europe, has advised us all to follow Shamar Rinpoche’s precise vision and instructions for the Bodhi Path Buddhist Centers. Importantly, we should always keep in mind the spirit of loving kindness and compassion for all beings.
